We have had bloodhounds for 18 years and our children have grown up with them, the whole family loves the breed with all their quirks.
Ann is a Bloodhound Working Trials judge and was the Hon. Secretary of the Association of Bloodhound Breeders for five years. She handled both Susie and Izzy at Working Trials and is often seen helping out with managing and line walking at competitions and training days. For miles around she is known as the lady with bloodhounds. She has been a member of both breed clubs since Susie arrived.
Our oldest son grew up walking lines for the hounds and cheers on all their achievements. He and his fiancé bring their Saint Bernard to visit and play whenever possible.
Clara has handled Izzy and Maud at working trials to great success. She is also a Working Trials judge and has managed stakes and walked many lines. When not in the field with them she is happily taking their photos to capture treasured memories.
Our youngest son can’t remember a time before bloodhounds. He has always been at the end of the lines both walking and handling. His training with Maud helped her gain a full permit at the age of two.
All our hounds have lived with free range chickens, the family saying, “we don’t eat family members,” has held true. In fact, our chickens and hounds are fast friends and have taken part in games and garden agility together. While the fish in the pond have accepted the occasional paddling and pilfering of food.
Each of our hounds has a place in our hearts and memories. But they also have left their impressions on all who met them. When we lost Izzy the local vicar passed on his condolences’ and reminisced about the day she hunted the local Youth Group across the moors. Susie delighted many years of school children as she waited patiently at the school gates. And Maud has charmed the neighbourhood into coming and visiting her when she holds court at the gate.
You could say we would be lost without our hounds.
Below is some information about the hounds. The purple buttons reveal more.
The hounds enjoy regular walks in the countryside and trips to local beauty spots. They are always on their leads, once the nose goes down there is no stopping them until they find the owner of the scent.
Maud is our current hound. She is 4 years old, came from Finland and is a liver and tan colour. She loves to swim and hunt the clean boot.
Fryony is Maud's daughter and was born in August 2023.
She is a boisterous puppy loving life.
Izzy was with us for 12 years and sadly passed in 2021. She was a black and tan blanket (full coat) hound with a love for sun bathing.
